Who: Ondřej Báchor, whose work has caught the eye of media such as It’s Nice That, Ligature, Arcademi and Back Catalogue, is a graphic and type designer based in Lausanne.

When: Báchor obtained his master’s in graphic design and new media at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 2016. He went on to study type design at ECAL, where he completed his master’s in 2018.

Where: Currently freelance and a teaching assistant at ECAL, Bachor gained experience in graphic design and art direction at Camper, Spain. His clients include the New York Times Magazine, Nike, La Biennale di Venezia, Franek Architects, Galeries Lafayette, zweikommasieben magazine, the City of Brno and the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery.

What: Báchor presents the font family Kolektiv, primarily designed as a book typeface for contemporary needs. The font includes original shape solutions and is highly scalable, being both legible in a small size and entertaining in display size. It was developed in 2018 as a diploma project at ECAL.

Why: “The challenge was to capture Swiss qualities of rationality and legibility, and combine them with a Czech vividness in order to create a characterful result.” (Ondřej Báchor)
